Tending the Sheep

Home visitation and Beyond; Called to Care for God’s Flock

This course is course 2 of the program about Church Leadership.  This course builds on the previous course, A Theology of Church Leadership, but course 1 is not a requirement. The Home visitation course gives further insights into church leadership and more specifically, the task of caring for those in the church.  The course is designed to be practical, so that you can take the elements that you learn and apply them to the situations that you are in at the moment.

The course will begin with an in depth look at the qualifications of the elder put forward by Peter in 1 Peter 5 and by Paul in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. With these passages as background and foundation for the work of elders, the next three lectures will flesh out a model of caring for those in our ward, based on the structure of our Lord’s letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2 & 3.

Benefits of the Course

The course will give those participating practical tools in caring for the Lord’s people.  At the same time, there is an axiom in counseling that says that you can only help in as far as you have dealt with your own messes.  For that reason, The Healing Path and Lecture 3 are fundamental to an elder.
